This year’s recipient is "Da Suga" Foundation which is a not-for-profit corporation that was started after the need was realized that health care information needed to be more understandable for families and those with newly diagnosed and existing disorders.

Deanna Rookard-Rice AKA Da Suga Nurse is a well-educated, former Registered nurse, and author. Her journey started with a patient who stated he didn’t know anything about diabetes but how he knew that he had "Da Suga." This encounter led Deanna to research and write the book “I Got Da Suga, Da Suga Ain’t Got Me” followed by the formation of "Da Suga Foundation."  The foundation's mission is to change the face of diabetes, which is supported by their vision to help rebuild the confidence and lives of those affected by this manageable disease.
